Dental Crowns in Red Deer
Dental crowns are a covering placed over a natural tooth to enhance its appearance and secure what’s left of a natural tooth in place. A crown will cover your tooth right down to the gum line. Your dentist may recommend a dental crown to correct a misshapen or chipped tooth, to cover discoloured teeth, or even to hide large or multiple fillings in a tooth.
Types of Crowns
Dental crowns can be temporary or permanent and may be used for a variety of reasons, such as to protect cracked teeth or those with large fillings. Crowns may also hold dental bridges in place or be used with implants. They can also protect vulnerable teeth after other procedures. Crowns are typically made of metal, ceramic, or porcelain. Your dentist will be able to recommend the best option for you, taking into consideration cost, durability, and aesthetics.
Creating and Applying Crowns
First, your teeth are treated and restored as best as possible before preparing them for a dental crown. You’ll initially receive a temporary crown created in the dental office. A digital impression will also be sent to a lab where your permanent crown will be made. This process may take several weeks. Once the crown is ready, anesthesia is applied to the area and then the crown is fitted over your tooth.
